Somewhere in the world, a child dies every 3 seconds. They die from causes that could be prevented, such as dysentery, pneumonia, malaria, premature birth or complications during pregnancy or birth. Many countries in the world still do not have clean water or enough food; nor do they have any functioning healthcare system.
Save the Children operates at a national and international level for the implementation of political and financial measures to improve healthcare systems in developing countries. We work together with governments and partners to develop strategies to combat poverty and to improve medical services such as mother-and-child care, vaccination programmes and antenatal care. We also campaign to improve the nutritional situation for children in order to save lives and promote their healthy development.
